Of course I have the memories of being 6 or 7, sneaking into my mother's makeup drawer, smelling her lipsticks and destroying her eyeshadows with an unintentionally aggressive swatch, but I can truly pinpoint my first true interest in makeup during my sophomore year of high school when I started struggling with acne. My self confidence took a major hit & I remember researching anything & everything that could help me feel better about the annoying red bumps taking over my little teenager face.
My research led to my rediscovery of makeup, which led me down the black hole that was binging OG beauty guru's on youtube (shoutout Jaclyn Hill, Carly Bibel, & Tati Westbrook) and replicating their techniques on myself as best I could. I had always been an artistic kid (guarantee you'll never catch me excited to exercise or be outside), but learning how to paint a face was a whole new artistic challenge, and I loved it.
I got to college, joined a sorority, and suddenly had hundreds of beautiful faces at my disposal. I gained experience with a variety of skin tones/types/textures, & really began experimenting with long lasting makeup (that Georgia heat tailgate makeup had to be BUDGE PROOF). I eventually graduated college with my bachelors in marketing, but knew my heart belonged in the world of makeup artistry (ya girl isn't cut out for the desk life... my internship supervisor who caught me watching Patrick Ta tutorials vs. filing client profiles can attest).
So after graduation & a season of building my hair & makeup portfolio, I started my career with the Formal Faces hair & makeup team in Atlanta, and my life has literally been a dream ever since. I get to spend my days wrapped up in beauty & creativity, meeting so many incredible & kind humans along the way (truly some of my very best friends started out as random clients)... all while making a living off of something that started as a hobby... talk about the ultimate dream job!
More recently, I've seriously committed myself to investing in my artistry education. I've taken one-on-one lessons with a few of the greatest artists in my city and have visually seen such an progression in my craft. I hope to continue in this season of learning as well as providing that same educational resource for other mua's in my area.
